Intel processor identification: start with your hardware

A dated utility entry and a simpler way to frame the question: which processor is actually in this computer?

Identify before comparing

The archived article named a specific Intel Processor Identification Utility release. Today, the useful first task is to record the exact processor model reported by your operating system or the manufacturer’s documentation. A marketing family name alone may cover many different chips.

Keep different numbers separate

Model, architecture, core count and operating frequency describe different properties. A frequency that changes while the computer is running is not, on its own, evidence of a fault. When comparing software requirements, note the complete model and the operating-system architecture.

Use manufacturer information

Consult Intel’s support and product information for the processor you identify. This page does not redistribute the archived utility or assert that its old portable build is supported on a current system. It also makes no overclocking or performance promise.
